It is a perfect destination for nature lovers and for trekkers. Trekking in Kanchula is also an experience in itself. Chopta is third holiest temple among the Panch Kedar located in Gharwal region. You can reach Chopta by various means of transport, Jolly Grant airport is the nearest airport and the nearest railway station is Haridwar railway station, take a bus or hire a cab to reach Chopta. By road, there is no direct transport available to take a bus from Delhi to Ukimath.
It is at an altitude of 2680m, Chopta is the base camp for other treks also. The two major treks are Tungnath-Chandrshila and Deori Tal. The Chopta-Chandrshila trek is 5km and Deori Tal trek is 3-4km long. The beauty of mother nature will great you in the form of small water streams, oak, pine, rhododendron trees and snow-capped mountains. Camping at wonderful camping site surrounded by lush green meadow and surrounded by mountains, what else can be better than this. The beauty of the place increases in the night, a light bonfire with soft music makes the night unforgettable, gazing at twinkling stars completes the night.
Forest with a wide variety
The picturesque Deorital is famous for Chaukhamba peak, situated at a height of 7,800ft, the lake is encircled by forest. The trail is full of scenic views of red rhododendron trees. Sari village from Deorital is 8km, walk up to refreshing forest and meadows.
At some distance, you can spot Chaukhamba massif and the reflection of the peak can be seen in crystal clear lake, it is believed that gods bathed in the lake and also the Pandavas from Mahabharat stayed here for some time. It is also known as “Indra Sarovar”.
Pray Lord Shiva at the highest temple in the world
Tunnath is the highest temple which is dedicated to lord shiva, at a height of3680 m above sea level. According to the beliefs, Ravana performed Penance to please lord shiva for getting some special powers. In the temple, you can see idols of Adi Shankaracharya, Pandavas, Veda Vyasa and Kaal Bhairav. There are some other shrines as well such as Guptakashi, Kedarnath and Madhyamaheshwar, Lord Ganesh and Goddess Parvati. There is another temple near Akash Ganga waterfall, the temple of Nanda Devi.
Nature at its best
The experience is surreal the view from the top of mountains is stunning. The Chandrshila trek is a little harder than others. It is located at a height of about 4000m and offers a spectacular view from the top. Peaks like Nanda Devi, Trishul, Kedar, Bandrapunch and Chaukhmba. The wildlife sanctuary is protected and is rich in flora and fauna.
Nine- coloured Bird
One can spot a variety of species like Rufous woodpecker, Hill Prinia, Lammergeier, Golden eagle, Speckled wood pigeon, Black bulbul and others. Exploring the wildlife sanctuary and spotting Himalayan Thar and Monal bird, the state bird of Uttrakhand. The beautiful looking bird looks amazing having so many different colours.

The theme for pieces is mostly inspired by nature. There are local markets which offer local craft and artisans at reasonable prices.
Gopeshwar at an altitude of 1300m, it is 40 km away from Choptam, it is a popular tourist hub and religious centre. Sari village, situated in Rudraprayag near Ukimath, it has beautiful apple and peach orchids to offer. Augusthmuni and Gandhi Sarovar are other places that can be visited.
